Health

As a Permanent Resident in Canada you are entitled to provincially funded health care coverage. Please find links to each Canadian province's health coverage details, below. You should be advised that you are required to have resided in Canada as a permanent resident for ninety (90) days before you are eligible to receive health care coverage. You may wish to purchase private health coverage until you become eligible for provincial coverage.

Your Rights As a Canadian

To maintain your permanent residence status, you must live in Canada for a total of at least 730 days within any consecutive five year period of time.

As a permanent resident, you and your dependants have the right to live, study and work anywhere in Canada.

You are entitled to receive social services including health care.

As a permanent resident of Canada, you are also protected by Canadian law and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Permanent residents cannot vote in elections; are ineligible for jobs that require high-level security clearance; and can be deported from Canada if they commit a serious criminal offence.
